What are the most common parts of an aircraft brake?
The aircraft brake system works to provide safe and reliable braking performance and includes common components such as:
- Swage Tube: The swage tube connects the brake assembly to the hydraulic system and is responsible for transmitting the hydraulic pressure needed to activate the brake.
- Rotator: A rotator is responsible for transferring the braking force from the stationary brake components to the rotating wheels. It ensures that the brake pads make full contact with the rotating disc.
- Wear Pad: Wear pads are small pads located on the back plate of the brake assembly and act as sacrificial components, wearing down over time to protect the more expensive parts of the brake system.
- Rivets (Stationary Plate) (Pressure Plate) (Back Plate): These components hold the brake pad material to the back plate of the brake assembly.
- Rotating Disc: The rotating disc is a part of the brake assembly that rotates with the wheel and comes in contact with the brake pads to slow or stop the aircraft.
- Insulator (Lining): This lining insulates the brake assembly from high temperatures generated during braking, protecting other components from heat damage.
- Adjuster Sleeve: This component allows for fine-tuning of the brake adjustment, ensuring that the brake pads make proper contact with the rotating disc.
At Rapco Fleet Support, we specialize in providing high-quality aircraft brake solutions that meet the demanding requirements of the aviation industry.
